App Store Screenshot Sizes: What iPhone and iPad Actually Require

Store Connect Management ·

The most frustrating rejection when uploading screenshots is "invalid dimensions". App Store Connect only accepts a fixed set of pixel sizes, and a few pixels off gets them bounced. Here is the current device list, the scaling rules and the usual pitfalls in one place.

Why the exact size matters

App Store Connect does not check proportions; it matches your file against a list of allowed pixel sizes. If the width or height is off by even a few pixels, the upload is flagged as invalid and nothing is scaled for you.

A wrong size usually means a blocked release and a fresh queue at review. Getting the dimensions right up front is far cheaper than fixing it later.

Which device sizes you must provide now

For iPhone you must provide at least one set for the large Dynamic Island display: native size 1320 × 2868 (portrait), with 1290 × 2796 and 1260 × 2736 also accepted. The 6.7" class no longer exists on its own — old 1290 × 2796 shots fall into this slot. The 6.5" size (1284 × 2778 or 1242 × 2688) is required only if you do not supply the 6.9" set.

For iPad, if your app supports iPadOS you must supply a 13" iPad set — native 2064 × 2752, with 2048 × 2732 (12.9") also accepted. If the UI is identical across sizes and locales, upload only the highest-resolution set; App Store Connect will downscale it for smaller devices automatically.

The three most common mistakes

First, dimensions a few pixels off — usually from the wrong device canvas or manual cropping. Second, a leftover alpha channel: PNGs exported from Figma, Sketch or a canvas can keep transparency data even when every pixel is opaque, and App Store Connect rejects them outright; export as JPEG or flatten onto a solid background. Third, missing screenshots for some locales — every region you publish should carry screenshots in its language.

Two more small traps: a status bar showing a real carrier, full signal or low battery looks unprofessional; and screenshots that show features not actually present in the build will get questions at review.

Export the right sizes in one pass with a screenshot studio

Placing and exporting each size by hand in a graphics tool is slow and error-prone. A screenshot studio ships with device canvases and official colored frames, so you drop in a UI capture and it snaps to the exact pixels.

Store Connect Management exports at the official sizes and offers a magnifier to check pixel-level detail. Screenshots and multilingual copy live in the same workspace, then sync in one click through your own App Store Connect API key — no more re-cropping or manual uploads.

FAQ

Can I upload only the 6.9" screenshot set?

Yes. Apple requires only one iPhone set at the highest resolution, and App Store Connect scales it for smaller devices. For the sharpest look on the most popular models, the 6.9" set is the one to supply.

Why does my PNG fail to upload even with the right dimensions?

It is almost always a leftover alpha channel. PNGs from Figma, Sketch or a canvas can carry transparency data even when every pixel is opaque. Export as JPEG, or flatten the PNG onto a solid background.

Must an iPhone-only app also provide iPad screenshots?

No. iPad 13" screenshots are required only if your app supports iPadOS. A phone-only app does not need them.
